A BOUTIFUL HARVEST: GRATITUDE IS A FORM OF PRAISE

It’s day 9 of the Haitian disaster and the ignorance is prevalent.

I’ve watched the coverage everyday on CNN while feeding my daughter. It’s sad on one hand and slightly hopeful, on the other.

Just this morning it was reported that some have started makeshift markets for food and lifestyle products. The problem is these entrepreneurs are charging ridiculous prices for pieces of fruit. Most people will not even be able to pay for these products.

There are still long lines at the bank; so long in fact people are deserting the line after waiting for hours to be seen.
As I grow in the Lord I’m reminded just how blessed I am. Times are currently difficult for my family on the financial platform, but we still have our home, we still have food to carry us through. And we still have many amenities that help us feel good. (My son just woke up today saying he has to turn his heated blanket down from a 4 to a 3. Kids in Haiti probably don’t even know this product exists.)

We are supposed to look around us with the eyes of Christ and see not only the circumstances of our neighbors, but also reflect on the blessings and mercies our Great God gives us daily.

In spite of my circumstances, I know I’m blessed, are you? Do you observe from a distance what transpires to others as misfortunes and not see the connection? I can’t live like that. I have to proactively look, meaning look with feeling. Look with a sense of gratitude. If it weren’t for the grace of God I would be dust, useless and unsavory. But because of him I’ve become clay, shapeable and with the potential to take form to become useful.

My Bounty is my salvation and the knowledge that my God will provide, even in times of desperation.

Gratitude is a form of praise and we need to express it daily to our Lord.
