I’m starting a new blog series here where I’ll do a review for any artist I add to my playlist.
At heart I’m a few things. Writer. Critic. Poet. MC. Singer. When something touches me, I like to share it. That’s the reason our network exists, isn’t it? That’s what we’re supposed to do with the gospel, isn’t it?
A.P. Light’s “Been Missing You” is tight. Here’s why: it has social appeal! You can listen to this track if you’re playing spades, driving, getting dressed, cooking, or at a Christian club.
The message is clear, yet profound. He’s been waiting all his LIFE for the father he didn’t have in his natural father. Of course he didn’t realize this. During the years of missing his natural father, he was actually missing God, our real father. Because of his realization, he’s blessed. He’s not only blessed, but he’s joyful because he knows he’s blessed!
He shares a few recollections that are dear. Recollections that highlight the void in his life. He also expressed his lamentations for those days, since if he had God, his pattern of choices would’ve been different.
Musically I think the track itself has a sad, yet hopeful feel to it. (What’s one word to describe “sad, yet hopeful’?) The sprinkling of sing-song flow at certain break points works for me. Curtis Blow started that a looong time ago. But don’t tell Ja-Rule!
Overall I think the track is tight like I said. It’s something I’ll play while I writing, but on a low volume, so I don’t get caught up in the lyrics, and usually I can only play classical music when I’m writing.
MICS UP TO A.P. Light!!!
